2019 – Julia Lovell

  • 7.30pm
  • Ship Theatre, Walthamstow Hall School, Hollybush Lane, Sevenoaks TN13 3UL

This is the story not just of the development of modern China, but of a movement that takes us from the tea plantations of north India to the sierras of the Andes, from Paris to the fields of Tanzania, and from the rice paddies of Cambodia to the terraces of Brixton. In her revelatory and accessible book, Julia Lovell argues that Maoism remains a vital and globally formative influence on the contemporary world. Julia is Professor in Modern Chinese History and Literature at Birkbeck, University of London.
