The poet Lemn Sissay’s life story is one of neglect and determination, misfortune and hope, cruelty and triumph. He will be reading from his new book, My Name is Why, about his childhood in care; exploring the institutional care system, race, family and the meaning of home. This moving and frank memoir is the result of a life spent asking questions and finding his answers in the power of creativity.
Lemn Sissay was the official poet of the London Olympics in 2012. He was awarded an MBE in 2010 for services to literature and the PEN Pinter prize in 2019. He was a sensation when he visited the Festival in 2016 – be prepared to be moved and inspired.
