Biographer Paula Byrne confimed as first Festival event
The opening event of the 20th Sevenoaks Literary Festival has been confirmed as the Literary Tea with bestselling biographer Paula Byrne.
Author of acclaimed previous books on Jane Austen and Mary Robinson, Paula will be talking about her new biography: The Adventures of Miss Barbara Pym.
It tells the story of an outstandingly amusing and witty writer who became a bestseller late in life.
Like Jane Austen, Barbara Pym makes the everyday world fascinating, describing with self-deprecating humour the small concerns which make up our daily lives.
Paula’s wide-ranging biography shows how Pym's novels reflected her own life and the lives of so many genteel single women in the post-war years. If you haven’t yet read a Barbara Pym, you have a treat in store.
Paula will be interviewed by Jill Webster, Chair of the Sevenoaks Literary Festival.
Tickets will go on sale at the end of July, via the Festival website.
